The Archipelago Sea

The countless barren rocky islands, decorated by vegetation of the more temperate biome and traditional falun red paint cottages, dominate the seascape of the area. The third Salpausselkä ridge penetrates the Archipelago Sea on a line from Sandön to Jurmo adding its own special hue to the prevailing rocky scenery. On the west the area ends at Åland continent which is its own peculiar part of Finland. Most of the southern part of the archipelago belongs to the Archipelago Sea National Park which is bordered by the open sea.

The national park is a good area to have dinghy cruising trips, although conditions can be tough even if the islands limit the force of waves. Prevalence of rocky islands is a significant challenge when planning landing.
